I definately agree that contact synchronization is a great feature with exchange and mail merge is something that I didnt think about either. However, for someone who used to spend there days inside of outlook I dont miss it one bit for one reason... the speed of gmail. Outlook tends to be very slow on exchange depending on the amount of mail you actually receive and save.
