I have to agree most with Sara Bonert's comments. There is a huge opportunity right now to create a strong online marketing strategy through social networking. Creating a GENUINE online presence through social media is important both today and even more so when the market recovers. Early adopters have an opportunity to jump in and carve out their own unique niche that can pay enormous dividends. Think about this: the next wave of first time buyers will be GenY's that are already immersed in social networks/media. The dinosaurs who think that these communities are like Trix (for kids) are precluding themselves from a lot of business & personal relationships. This may seem obvious, but I can't tell you how many times I heard "social networks are only for pimply faced teenagers" at Connect NYC.

Thanks Diane! And for the record, I’m 31.

But seriously, I love talking to passionate agents like you who are excited about their job and thrive on incorporating helpful technology into benefit their business.

I think the obvious challenge with technology is in identifying and implementing the right kind of tools for you. Technology can save you time and make you a more efficient mobile agent. But not everyone has the same needs. So after you assess which key areas in your business could be improved upon with technology—the trick is to manage your time and expectations wisely. Technology can be a lot of fun….and a big time waster if you’re not focused on how your’re using it.

scotsman, I'm way over thirty... believe me, a lot of us there were.

NikNik, thanks for the opportunity to speak out. It was interesting to see what my colleagues had to say as well, and I couldn't agree more.

And great work on the video. My next purchase will definitely be one of those nifty little FlipBooks!

Diane

There is good stuff in those video clips! Good work with getting people who can speak to the camera, it's not easy as I've been finding out.

We just had our quarterly call with the HomeGain Advisors who represent our top performing agents in different areas across the country and I heard a lot of the same remarks.

Dan- You couldn't be more right about the time factor. I think I'm a pretty good multi-tasker, and I usually have to do something myself to have done correctly (= my way). Which means I'm left to divide up my time more so that I can get EVERYTHING done. But this fractioning takes away from "my best effort", so I'm gradually learning to be a manager and not a doer of everything!

Gordon- Thanks for your perspective. Coupling the online with the offline is definitley a new balance to achieve in 2008!

Was there anyone over 30 there?

I think technology helps agents free up their time to DO MORE PROSPECTING!
Brokers, offices and managers don't seem to understand that to survive they may have to get out more and actually talk face to face with buyers and sellers!

The "outsourcing" remarks really hit home.

I am hearing more chatter in the trenches about it (and not just because I'm starting the conversation).

We can all only do so much in day.
