You have to be really careful without going overboard as some of these widgets can really slow your site to a crawl and ruin the users experience.

I agree, you shouldn't try every widget that was ever invented. The key is finding the ones that are going to complement your website.

It' doesn't make sense to put a bunch of widgets on your website because they are very distracting to the visitor. I rather have visitors focused on the article or whatever I am trying to say

Widgets can also be an interesting way to give your site's visitors a glimpse into your personality.

For example, if you were to embed my new "Real Estate Stern Fan" widget, sure, you'd risk turning some people off… but if you think it might be fun to let other Stern Fans in your area know you share their interest… well, why not, right?

So I guess what I'm saying is…the widget doesn't always have to be Real Estate focused if part of the goal of your site is to just attract like minded folks?

Diana- You must be on WordPress.com. If you use WordPress.org you have WAY MORE (high technical term) options and features….and YOU can use all sorts of valuable plugins and/or widgets. Now it takes more knowledge of blog customization but it's so much more powerful. I could go on and on…and on. Just let me know if you have any specific questions.

Love all these Real Estate related widgets – Unfortunately, WordPress doesn't seem to let me install any of them – or maybe I should say – I have NO IDEA WHAT I AM DOING!! There, I said it – and feel 10 lbs lighter!

I loathe widgets. lol – If you know Posh'd, you know my displeasure with them. If done correctly, they add great value, but I think rookies tend to over-widgetize (did I just say that?). Nice work with the disclaimer – I just hope people read it.

Nice article and gives you something to think about. I did put a widget on my condo site about my blog. I am not sure I want a lot of stuff unless its local and of value to the visitor . Just getting my blog started so I have a lot to learn.
