HI Glenn! The Signature Model S requires almost complete prepayment - $40,000 (only 1000 will be made), but you take delivery in early 2011. The regular Model S only requires a refundable $5,000 deposit and will be delivered in 2012. Quite a wait, but I still think it's worth it! The Infotainment screen is incredible! FYI- Tesla did recently receive funding from Uncle Sam so we may see earlier delivery on the Model S. To learn more, go here: http://www.teslamotors.com/buy/buyshowroom.php#

Nik_Nik,

I understand your Dad landed a Tesla franchise (I think I saw a Tweet about that).

Do you know how long the deposit waitline is on the Model S. I love this car and would be willing to put a deposit in (at some point) if I knew the projected roll out date of the Model S is and where I might stand in the waitline.

BTW: I found this page through a Google Search looking for the Waitlist for the Model S (which I have had as my desktop background for the last six months)... I noticed your thread at the top of the list so figured why not ask a friend ;)

See: http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1GGLS_en-USUS293US303&aq=f&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=waitlist+for+Tesla+model+s

I wonder how many people have a clue about the name of this car - and I'm not talking about an 80s metal band.

Brendan and Jim- Good for you both! No matter which way you do it, you're both thinking cleaner and making an effort toward reducing your environmental footprint. And that's what we need more of! Earth Day is approaching this month on the 22nd, and it would sure be nice if we all made more of a sustainable effort in one way or another everyday.

One benefit electric car owners enjoy over hybrid is the "torque factor". Just sayin...

FYI...Tesla has plans for another model at the $30,000 price range. And if Tesla gets more funding is able to produce faster, the cost will likely drop for the Model S!

Tesla looks pretty nice but I've been driving a Toyota Prius since 2006.

You can buy one today for half the price of a Tesla and still have a more Eco-Friendly ride than about 98% of all other vehicles on the road.

NikNik,

I was following the play-by-play on your Flickr & Twitter Accounts! Awesome coverage of the release. I was completely disappointed in the Tesla's after watching Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear test drive them. But now that they have the quick charge, I don't think there is much he can complain about.
I don’t know how much they are, but the Fisker Karma looks hot too!

Fortunately Chris, we have a few years before the Model S is delivered....so you got time! And my hope is that the Energy Department will fund Tesla so production moves more quickly...and then the cars could cost less, like around $30,000. I think our government needs to stop bailing out car companies that have been dragging their feet through the compost and start investing in companies that can provide both environmental and economic sustainability!

Oh, and you're CR peeps would think you're definitely a man of eco-integrity! Just don't plug in to their cubicle!

Nik_Nik, what would my conservative Cedar Rapidian peeps think of me if I rolled into the office in this sweet ride??? I'll have to get busy and sell a few more homes to put down that deposit, but I love the car, love the "green concept" and monitor!
