One of the best social media strategies for real estate agents is to become your network’s trusted advisor. And of course one of the best places to put that strategy into play is, without a doubt, on Facebook. So you create a profile and import your sphere list, now what?!
Well, as a real estate professional you can easily showcase your expertise and knowledge about your market area and industry trends. One of the ways I suggest doing this is by posting status updates that offer relevant info and/or tips your network would find helpful. Now some of you are already REALLY GOOD at sharing this type of info…and you might be so good at it that you decide to create a Fan Page to focus more intently on business.
Fan Pages are becoming more popular among real estate professionals for several reasons. Most importantly, Read full story

10 Tips for Getting Reacquainted with Facebook’s New Layout
By NikNik · February 7, 2010 · 20 Comments
Facebook celebrated it’s 6th birthday in style…by launching a redesign of the home page. I was excited to be included in the initial 80 million accounts that were updated with the design on February 4th. This new layout is being rolled out to the remaining Facebook users now (Reggie’s still waiting).
I have to say I’ve been a bit annoyed with some of the recent minor changes made by Facebook, but when it comes to this new overhaul…I’m a fan! Most notably, are the cleaner home page appearance and the removal of the bottom “start” bar. The search bar is now prominently displayed in the top center of the home page, just above the News Feed. And the top blue navigation bar has been simplified to include just a few key quick launch links on the left and right sides.
Now just in case you are a tad turned around by this new layout, I put together a quick list of 10 tips for getting reacquainted with the network you know and love! Read full story
12 Days of iPhone Apps – Day 8: CitySourced
By NikNik · December 18, 2009 · 4 Comments
On the 8th Day of iPhone Apps,
MyTechOpinion blogged to you…
Take civic responsibility….
Use CitySourced to report graffiti!
About CitySourced:
I was talking with Dan Mirsky recently about our favorite and “just plain cool” iPhone apps. He directed my attention to a new local app for the city of San Jose that I immediately thought was pretty handy! It’s called CitySourced and it’s available for free to all San Jose residents. The city paid $4500 for the app’s development. With it, city constituents and residents can report graffiti, abandoned vehicles and other neighborhood blight to the proper city departments. Do you really think I’m visiting your Facebook profile to look for homes? Really!?!
By NikNik · November 11, 2009 · 45 Comments
Saturday night brings with it one of my most favorite TV segments…“Really!?! with Seth & Amy”. In this SNL skit, Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers share their snarky take on current affairs. So in the spirit of “Really!?”…I’m going to shed some light on “Real Estate Listings Inside Facebook”!
Let’s start with obvious failures inside Facebook…at the moment!
MyRealEstateListings (there are 2 of them, as well as a few more similarly named cohorts) but they essentially all do the same thing- create a “MyRealEstate” or “MyListings” tab on your profile. You can then click on the tab (when was the last time you clicked on a tab) to view a lack luster interface of your manually entered listings from which you can then decide to click further to obtain details, which lands you on a third party site outside of Facebook. Click for more details, really!?! Read full story
Goodbye Vista!
By Chad A. Johnson · October 30, 2009 · 14 Comments
It is complete. I am now 100% Vista-free. Let me tell you, it feels good.
Windows 7 seems lighter, faster and cleaner. It has breathed new life into my aging computers.
First Impressions
Microsoft has done a good job of simply refining Vista. At first, I was disappointed that Windows 7 is so much like Vista. After upgrading 2 computers and working with the operating system, I am glad Microsoft didn’t start from scratch.
Compatibility
As an early adopter of Vista, I dealt with software and hardware compatibility issues. This was frustrating and costly as many programs and peripherals had to be replaced.
Fortunately, everything that worked on my Vista computers is compatible on Windows 7. Read full story
Lucky Number 7
By Chad A. Johnson · October 20, 2009 · 5 Comments
Two and a half years has gone by very quickly. It seems like just yesterday that I was booting up my Windows Vista computer for the first time with excitement and anticipation. For me, it was like watching that summer blockbuster you’ve eagerly awaited in hopes of it exceeding your expectations. But, like most summer blockbusters, Windows Vista didn’t live up to expectations. It was a bloated and flawed operating system in many ways. Vista does have quite a few redeeming qualities. It was an improvement over Windows XP to the point that I never considered reformatting and going back the older OS (something I did shortly after installing Windows ME).
We are now back to a time of great anticipation. Hopes that Microsoft will redeem itself with the release Windows 7 abound. Will Windows 7 be faster? Will it ask fewer annoying questions? Will it work with all of my current software and hardware? With the Windows 7 release coming October 22, all of our questions will be answered soon enough.

By Chad A. Johnson · July 27, 2009 · 2 Comments
You are working away at building your Wordpress website. Having fun finding plugins to add exciting new functionality to your site when error messages start appearing at the top of the Wordpress admin.
The error message starts with (1) “Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by…”, followed by (2) a reference to a plugin file and (3) a reference to “pluggable.php on line 850”.
5 Ways To Add A Membership Area To A Wordpress Website
By Chad A. Johnson · July 9, 2009 · 11 Comments
Moving beyond its blogging platform roots, Wordpress is gaining in popularity as a content management system (CMS). With this shift in utilization, the system is being asked to host more complex websites. One such example is that of a membership site.
In real estate, there are numerous uses for a membership site:
Real Estate Brokerage Intranet – Share news, make documents and forms available for download, and post company meetings and events on the calendar (using one of our recommended Wordpress calendar solutions).
Preferred Client Area – Add an area to your real estate website to share special information and services to clients who register. Can you say, “lead generation” or “client retention”?
Paid Content Site - Are you the next Brian Buffini? Have a sales strategy that is worth selling? Create a membership site with paid subscriptions.
